Overview
Information
technology is a dynamic technology that has sparked the development
of many new products and new services. The last decade of 20th century
had witnessed Information Technology (IT) emerge as the most prominent
technology to have a revolutionary affect on the lives of people across
the world. During this period, IT engineers and scientists have earned
a high degree of esteem around the world for their highly professional
and innovative contribution to the technological advancements in this
field. IT has become essential to all businesses. Hardware, software,
and communication systems are now part of most business operations.
Informatics, information science, is a discipline that deals with
the processes of storing and transferring information. It attempts
to bring together concepts and methods from various disciplines such
as library science, computer science and engineering, linguistics,
psychology, and other technologies in order to develop techniques
and devices to aid in the handling-that is, in the collection, organization,
storage, retrieval, interpretation, and use-of information. It encompasses
computers, software, telecommunications products and services, Internet
and online services, and systems integration.
Established in 1995, the College of Informatics at Yuan Ze consists
of the Department of Computer Engineering and Science, Department
of Information Management, Department of Information Communication,
Department of Information Management Technology, Department of Information
Networking, and the Graduate School of Social Informatics. The College
works with industry, research, and government organizations to make
this technology more usable, more secure, more scalable, and more
interoperable than it is today. We develop the tests and test methods
that both the developers and the users of the technology need to objectively
measure, compare and improve their systems.
