The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is recognized internationally as one of the best educational programs in Taiwan. Affiliated with the College of Informatics, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the five academic units established at the time of founding of the university in 1989. The department established its master and Ph.D. programs in 1991 and 1995, respectively, as well as its master program for part-time students in 1998. The department has since extended further to build its affiliated unit—the Department of Information Networking Technology” in 1999, featuring a two-year B.S. program specifically focusing on networking technology. This program has stopped accepting students since 2010. In 2008, the department founded the Graduate Program in Biomedical Informatics determined to foster multi-disciplinary researchers specialized in medicine, biology and informatics.

The Department of Information Communication offers the first interdisciplinary program focusing on digital media content design and internet communication in Taiwan. The aim is to cultivate technological application specialists for the communication media field as well as communication media experts for the information technology field. In other words, this department is preparing students to develop careers in digital media professions within the context of telecommunications and information networks.
We offer undergraduate program with two concentrations: Digital Design and Information Technology. Digital Design concentration majors in multimedia design and production. Information Technology concentration focuses on the technological application of e-learning, computer game, and interactive design. In addition, the department offers digital art design program, which guides students to develop creatively and to study in other related fields.
The master degree program emphasizes in the research on the following two areas. Digital Design specializes in the interactive design integration and production management of digital content. Information Technology majors in technology integration and innovative services of virtual entertainment programs.

The Graduate School of Social Informatics (GSSI) at Yuan Ze University is founded in 1997 being the very first graduate school focusing on the study of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and their implications regarding social sciences perspectives in Taiwan. This program aims to bring about a greater understanding of the various social factors that are shaping or being shaped by ICTs. This is an interdisciplinary program that integrates social science disciplines to examine the development of information society and to study the public policy and strategy for a better development in information society.
Different from traditional social sciences, the study of social informatics is empirically anchored, as well as analytically, critically and normatively grounded. The research emphasizes on examining the design, uses, and consequences of information and communication technologies in ways that take into account its social, institutional or cultural contexts.

Biomedical informatics is the integration of basic biomedical research with bioinformatics, clinical informatics, and public health informatics into one discipline. Biomedical Informatics is an emerging field of science that has become one of the most important research areas under development by the Taiwanese government. Substantial attention is placed on using computer technology to acquire, organize, store, analyze, and manage biological, medical, and clinical information towards improving the public’s health and well-being.
Yuan Ze University’s Biomedical Informatics Program was founded in 2008 by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The department provides the program with a range of support, including classroom facilities, course management, and teaching faculties. The ultimate goal is to foster the next generation of researchers in biomedical informatics through extensive interdisciplinary collaborations in both teaching and research.
To date, the Biomedical Informatics Program has established a dynamic collaboration network between different departments within the university (the Department of Information Management and the Department of Mechanical Engineering), as well as with physicians from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital and Taoyuan General Hospital. We are also eager to include the industry as a part of the network in the near future. Through such interdisciplinary collaborations, we strive to conduct forward-looking research, enhancing skills and techniques in related areas and increasing the potential for novel discoveries.
